Teatro Zinzanni
Chicago, IL
WAIT LIST ONLY
For over 26 years, Teatro ZinZanni has welcomed audiences to intimately staged productions featuring over-the-top theatrics paired with lavish food and drink. While each Teatro ZinZanni is unique, the recipe is consistent: a dash of circus, a hint of Vaudeville and a whisper of cabaret. Teatro ZinZanni's productions unify the immeasurable talents from the best-of cirque, music, comedy, magic, and entertainment. Each Teatro ZinZanni performance is distinctly interactive and playful: to attend Teatro ZinZanni is to be a part of Teatro ZinZanni. And while attendees are encouraged to wear formal wear, they are also encouraged to embrace their wild, informal tendencies.
The show is housed in a treasure of both history and magic: an antique Belgian Spiegeltent, which is on the 14th floor of the Cambria Hotel. This intricate structure transports us to a bygone era of opulence, blending artistry with entertainment. Originating in the early 20th century, Spiegeltents, or "mirror tents" in Dutch toured Europe's cities bringing delight to audiences with their ornate beauty. These tents were the highlight of every countryside fair, acting as mobile palaces for dancing and happy gatherings. They could be erected and taken down very quickly. Crafted of intricate woodwork and stained glass and detailed in velvet and brocade, each tent has its own personality and style.
Following our 4 course lunch and show, we will travel to Oak Brook, IL to visit the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art, a Smithsonian Affiliate Museum. This museum is dedicated to the lapidary arts (the practice of shaping stone, minerals or other gemstones into decorative items such as cabochons, engraved gems (including cameos) and faceted designs, with displays of gemstones, jewelry and bejeweled objects, along with exhibits on earth science. The Lizzadro Museum was opened on November 4, 1962. ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, QUAD CITIES
Spend the day with VISTA Club! Our immersive adventure begins with a guided bus tour around the Rock Island Arsenal (RIA) an active U.S. Army installation located on a 946-acre island in the Mississippi River, managed by U.S. Army Garrison RIA, maintained by the Veterans Administration National Cemetery and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rock Island District. RIA is home to 80 organizations that provide critical products/services to all our Armed Services and employs more than 6,000 military, civilian, and contractor personnel. While there, we’ve also been offered a quick tour at the Mississippi River Visitors Center and the Lock & Dam 15.
We’ll be guests of the Arsenal for a lunch buffet in their banquet hall, offering a variety of options for all and your choice of tea, lemonade or water. After lunch, we’ll make our way over to the newly renovated RIA Museum, where a self-guided tour sets the chronological stage of fascinating storytelling, beginning with the initial founding of Fort Armstrong to the Blackhawk War. One of the museum’s major efforts is to highlight the sheer amount the Arsenal has produced/distributed to the military over the years. The RIA has supplied and tested armaments/equipment for Soldiers during EVERY conflict from the Spanish-American War to today. We will be able to see and understand the large and important role RIA has played throughout the history of the US Army and the role is continues to play.
Finally we complete our day at the Colonel Davenport House, located on the north side of Arsenal Island. Colonel Davenport traveled to the area with the US Army in 1816 where their mission was to establish fortification in the wilderness for the government. It attracted settlers to this wild, rich land. The house was built between 1833-1834, and became the center of local commerce, a crossroads for trade in the region, and later laid the foundation for the Quad Cities of Iowa and Illinois. You won’t want to miss this adventure of past, present and future so close to home!
